Redeemer women's basketball falls to No. 5 ranked Humber

talia-web1TORONTO, ON - The Redeemer University women's basketball team (2-5 OCAA, 4-5 overall) dropped a 94-66 decision to the No. 5 nationally ranked Humber Hawks (7-0 OCAA) Saturday night on the road.

Redeemer battled hard in the first half as they trailed by just nine 44-35 after 20 minutes.

Trailing by 12 (57-45), midway through the third quarter, Humber put together a 15-4 run to take a 72-49 with less than a minute left in the quarter, and held a 72-51 lead after three. In the final frame, the Hawks went on a 19-2 run to go up 91-53, on route to their seventh straight victory.

The Royals had four starters in double digits led by first year Talia Vreugdenhil (Frankford, ON) who recorded 17 points and four rebounds going 7-for-11 from the field. Fourth year Jessica Angelini (Hamilton, ON) added 16 points and seven boards while second year Kayla Simmonds (Hamilton, ON) and second year Karyn TeBrake (Ottawa, ON) collected 14 and 13 points respectively.

Humber was led by Marley Bonnick and Kia Watt who recorded 19 and 18 points respectively.

For the game, Redeemer shot 31.9% (23-for-72) from the field, 18.2% (4-for-22) from beyond the arc and 84.2% (16-for-19) from the free throw line. Humber went 36-for-86 (41.9%) from the floor, 13-for-36 (36.1%) from three-point land and 9-for-17 (52.9%) from the charity stripe.
