Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Curtiss Straatsma

BASKETBALL OVERPOWERS MOUNTAINEERS

Following a tough night on Wednesday for both Women's and Men's Basketball against the Sheridan Bruins, the teams looked to find themselves in the win column Saturday against cross town rivals, the Mohawk Mountaineers.

Both teams took control of their games from the opening tip. The Women led the game going into halftime with a score of 41-34. They came out again in the 3rd quarter in control, outscoring the Mountaineers 22-16. In the 4th quarter the Mountaineers made a push back at the Royals, scoring 24 points for Redeemer's 16. The Royals were able to hang on to their lead and come out of the match-up on top with a final score of 79-74.

It was a full team effort for the Royals as four of the seven players recorded double digits in total points. In only her second OCAA game as a Redeemer Royal, Karyn TeBrake was the Royals top scorer with 21 total points, also contributing 9 rebounds. Stephanie Findlay contributed 19 total points to the Royal's victory. Jessica Angelini recorded her second double-double in as many games, recording 14 total points and 12 rebounds.

The Royals Men's Basketball also took care of business on Saturday afternoon. The men, much like the women, controlled the game from the start. The Royals ended the half with an 11-point lead over the Mountaineers. The Royals were able to hang on to this lead for the remainder of the game and put up a big 4th quarter, scoring 31 points to bring the final score for the Royals to 106-95 over the Mountaineers.

Again, it was a team effort for the Royals, with all 5 starters recording double digits in points. Isaiah Brinkley led in scoring once again for the Royals, recording 21 total points. Goran Veselinovic was not far behind for a game total of 19 total points. Blake Anderson, Foster Brown and Kian Durno assisted from close behind recording 17, 16 and 13 total points respectively.

The Royals will be looking to remain in the win column this Wednesday, February 16 at the Redeemer Athletic Centre for their home opener against the Conestoga Condors.
