It wasn't the night that either team had hoped for as they headed to Etobicoke to take on the undefeated Humber Hawks. The Women's and Men's teams both fell to the Hawks in 3 sets.
The Women took to the floor first to take on the #4 nationally-ranked Hawks. The Royals battled hard and never backed off on their attack but were unable to secure a victory. After losing the first set 16 - 25, the Royals dug deep and pushed in the second set, but came up just shy for a set score of 23 - 25. The Royals continued to fight but could not close out the third set with a score of 15 - 25.
The Royals were led by fifth-year veteran
Abby Sluys for a total of 10 points.
Jasmyn Stoffers followed close behind and supported recording 8 total points.
The Hawks were led by Erika Dodd who recorded 16 total points.
The Men's game saw the battle between the top 2 provincially ranked teams. The Royals, sitting at number 2, were hoping to overtake the Hawks for the top spot. The Royals fought hard in all 3 sets against the Hawks but struggled to find the consistency to overtake them. The pair of
Brayden Stoffers and
Brett Jenkins led the way for the Royals recording 6 total points each, with
William Winkelhorst not far behind adding 5 points. The Royals will look to prepare for a late-season re-match with the Hawks deep in the playoffs.
The Hawks were led by Joshua Fadare who led all scorers with 17 total points.
The Royals will look to bounce back on Friday night against the Sheridan Bruins in Oakville, ON.
