The Redeemer Royals will be playing for a medal at the 2020 OCAA Men's Basketball Final Four at Humber College on March 16 and 17.
In thrilling fashion, the Royals knocked off the #1 East ranked George Brown Huskies in Toronto on Saturday afternoon with final score of 91-87.
With the win, the Royals have punched their ticket to the semifinals on Wednesday, where they will face the St.Clair Saints at 8:00 p.m.
It was a back and forth game from the outset, with both teams fighting for momentum. Redeemer came out of the gates strong, racing to a 26-15 lead by the end of the first quarter. With all of the momentum at their backs, it looked as though the Royals could put some separation between themselves and the Huskies early. The Royals continued this large point spread going into the half up 46-37.
After a back-and-forth third quarter, one that saw the Huskies slowly chip away at the lead of the Royals, they were rewarded for their perseverance. The Huskies were down by just two points at the end of the third quarter.
Redeemer would make sure that they entered the fourth with a boost of momentum. Redeemer started quickly gaining an 8 point spread in the first 3 minutes of play. The Huskies did not let go and continued to fight to stay in the game. Within the last 3:30 minutes of play, the lead changed 6 times between the Royals and Huskies. The Royals were able to edge out the Huskies for a final score of 91-87.Â
The Royals were led yet again by Rochester's
Isaiah Brinkley who racked up 30 points.
Blake Anderson,
Foster Brown and
Goran Veselinovic also contributed heavily to the Royals' victory scoring 16, 15, and 15 points respectively.Â
The Huskies were led by Teshayn Gayle scoring 20 total points.Â
The Royals will be facing the St. Clair Saints in their semi-final match-up on Wednesday, March 16th at Humber College North at 8:00 pm. Humber College will be allowing spectators at full capacity.
