ETOBICOKE – Redeemer men's basketball opened their 2022 OCAA Championship with a match-up against the St. Clair Saints. The Royals had previously faced off against the Saints once in pre-season, dropping the game 75-78 and then again in their last regular-season game, winning in overtime over the Saints with a score of 103-101. It was easy to tell that tonight's game would be a battle.
The Royals struggled to find the hoop during the first half and ended the second quarter down 36-60. It seemed as though the Saints might have just locked up the win, but the Royals ground it out in the third quarter to make it a game. Redeemer chipped away at the Saints lead in the third quarter, closing the gap to 61-79.
The Royal Family was out in full force in Humber's gymnasium and back the Royals through the third and fourth quarter. The Men came back within 9-points with just under 2 minutes of play left. However, the deficit was too much for the Royals to overcome and they fell to the Saints with a final score of 97-110.
