SILVER LININGS FOR MEN'S VOLLEYBALL

Redeemer finishes 2nd at 2022 OCAA Championships

It wasn't the colour they were hoping for but the Royals can walk away knowing they left everything they had on the court this week, bringing home a Provincial Silver Medal to prove it. The Humber Hawks repeated as OCAA Champions with a 3-0 (25-8, 25-21, 25-11) victory over Redeemer in the Gold Medal Game.

A vocal crowd made-up mostly of loyal Royals fans, added to the intensity of the hard-fought match. Along for the ride at the Championship, the fans cheered the Royals to their second-ever Men's Division 1 Silver Medal. With a Bronze medal in 2018 - 2019 and a Silver medal in 2021-2022, the Royals will look to once again better themselves next year in 2022-2021. With Jason Wildeboer and Daniel Wolfert playing their last game as a Royal, Redeemer will be returning everyone else for next season.

Redeemer finished 8-1 on the OCAA regular season, and qualified for the Championship tournament via a quarterfinal victory over the Algonquin Wolves. They then defeated the #1 East ranked Canadore Panthers to advance to the Championship Final. The Humber Hawks defeated the Seneca Stine and Sheridan Bruins to advance to the Gold Medal Game.

Jake Gomes, an OCAA All-Star and the Player of the Game for the Hawks notched 26 assists and 3 service aces in the victory. Meanwhile, the Royals Player of the Game was Brett Jenkins.

With their second-place finish, the Royals have earned the program's first-ever bid to the 2022 Men's Volleyball National Championships. Redeemer will represent the OCAA next week in Quebec City hosted by Cegep Limoilou.
