BASKETBALL WEEKEND ROUND-UP

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL @ LAMBTON LIONS

Despite a gutty effort by the Royals, the Lions took advantage of the shorthanded visitors, winning by 15 points. 8 Lions saw the court while the 3 Royals starters played 40 minutes. There were several times within the game where the Lions looked like they may run away with the game, but the Royals kept things interested and clawed their way back several times. Ultimately, the Lions secured the victory with a 20 point lead in the 4th that the Royals could not fully recover from. The final score was 68-53 for the Lions.

It was a true team effort again for the Royals as 3 players recorded double-doubles on the night. Stephanie Findlay on 18 points, 11 rebounds. Karyn TeBrake on 12 points, 10 rebounds and Maddison Cohoon on 10 points and a very impressive 20 rebounds. Cohoon's 20 rebounds ties Redeemer's record for 'Rebounds in a Single Game.'

MEN'S BASKETBALL @ LAMBTON LIONS

In the Men's match, Redeemer was dealt a tough loss by the Lions, hurting their chances of hosting a first-round crossover playoff match.

The Royals were quick to start with 11 quick points from Goran Veselinovic and Isaiah Brinkley. This however did not faze the Lions who controlled the entirety of the game, never giving up the lead to the Royals once after the first 5 minutes. The Royals had a tough night of shooting making 39.5% from the field and 22.7% from the 3pt line. The Lions took the win with a final score of 92-82.

The Royals were led by Isaiah Brinkley with 17 total points and Blake Anderson with 16 total points.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL @ ST. CLAIR

Heading into their last match of the regular season the Royals were facing off against the 7-0 St. Clair Saints who hold a 1st ranking in the OCAA West.

The Royals entered the half tied with the Saints at 41-41 having put consistent pressure on the Saints for the first half. The Saints started the second half strong slowly pulling away from the Royals who struggled to keep up with the Saints in the third and fourth quarters. The Saints finished with a 16-point lead over the Royals and a final score of 90-74.

Three Royals finished the game in double figures. Stephanie Findlay led Redeemer with 27 points and 9 rebounds. Karyn TeBrake had another solid game with 19 total points and Jessica Angelini added 15 points.

The Royals Men's Basketball team halted a 3-game slide Saturday evening with an underdog win over the No. 14 nationally-ranked Saints at home. In overtime, the Royals knocked off St. Clair 103-101.

After a trio of tough losses, the Royals rebounded Saturday, for their 5th win of the season. The Royals kept things tight with the Saints for the entirety of the match seeing the lead change 10 times throughout the game. With a foul from Redeemer and a good St. Clair free throw, the Saints forced overtime with 22 seconds left at a score of 89-89. It was a close 5 minutes of overtime but Redeemer's duo of Brinkley and Veselinovic making clutch late-game shots held off the Saints for a Royal victory of 103-101.
