Royals women's soccer plays Fanshawe to 1-1 tie

wsoc-22Ancaster, ON - The Redeemer University women's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie against the visiting Fanshawe Falcons Saturday night at David Mantel Field.

The Royals opened the scoring just two minutes into the opening half as second year Esther DeHaan (Smithville, ON) beats Fanshawe starting goalkeeper Tiakotierenhton Diabo for her fourth goal of the season. Second year Ivana Kanisek (Mississauga, ON) added the assist.

The Falcons evened the score 1-1 in the 17th minute, when Juliana Popovic setup Madilyn Michienzi who found the back of the net for her first goal of the campaign. 

In the second half, both teams battled hard for possession with won balls being equal. The Falcons got a few key offensive chances late but it was third year Avery Johnston (Pickering, ON) making some key stops to keep the game tied 1-1.

In her second game, Johnston registered three saves for her second straight tie. Diabo collected one save for Fanshawe.  

The Royals next action is September 22nd on the road against the Conestoga Condors. Their next home action is Saturday, September 24th at 12pm when they host the Humber Hawks at Tim Hortons Field.
