johnston2London, ON - The Redeemer University women's soccer team (4-2-2 overall, 2-2-2 OCAA) picked up a strong road victory Tuesday afternoon in London as they defeated the host Fanshawe Falcons by the score of 1-0.

"The girls played very well despite the rain and wind," said head coach Meaghan Rudd. "We played a hard and aggressive game and did not quit until the 90th minute. It was an important win and the girls really rose to the occasion."

Early in the second half, the Royals applied some pressure up front and answered in the 56th minute. Third year midfielder Avery Johnston (Pickering, ON) would bury home a rebound past Fanshawe starting goalkeeper. This would prove to be the game winner.

Redeemer continued to play a strong team defense, led by the backend of first year Grace Devries (Napanee, ON), and second years Adriana Kanisek (Mississauga, ON), Leah Sloots (Hamilton, ON) and Paige Kunica (Georgetown, ON).

Fourth year goalkeeper Lilly Brown (Stoney Creek, ON) was solid as she recorded her fourth shutout of the season turning aside all six shots she faced.

The Royals next action is this weekend when they host the Alumni Game as part of the Redeemer University 40th Anniversary event.
