London, ON - The Redeemer University men's volleyball team lost in five sets (20-25, 26-24, 25-23, 17-25, 13-15) to the No. 4 nationally ranked Fanshawe Falcons Saturday afternoon on the road. With the loss, the Royals record falls to 8-7 in the OCAA West Division.
Redeemer had three players in double digits led by first
Derick Breukelman (Burlington, ON) who recorded career highs with 20 kills and 12 digs for his third double double of the season. He also added two blocks and one ace for 23.0 points. Third year
Brett Jenkins (Peterborough, ON) contributed with 11 kills, six digs and four aces while fourth year
William Winkelhorst (Newcastle, ON) collected 10 kills and six digs.
With his 11 kill performance, Jenkins moves into 7th in single season kills with 194 surpassing Linden Bontkes (187 - 9th) and
Brayden Stoffers (192 - 8th). He also moved ahead of
Brayden Stoffers (242 - 6th) in single season points and is tied for fifth with Ryan Talsma (255).
Second year setter
Andrew Van Dyke (Guelph, ON) tied his career high with 47 assists moving him into second all-time in single season assists with 528. Van Dyke is 31 assists shy of the Royals single season mark of 558 held by Jake Klassen (2013-14). Second year libero
Carsen Grim (Langley, BC) chipped in with 10 digs in the loss.
Fanshawe was led by the trio of Tanner Paterson (12 kills), Jack Voght (10 kills) and Daniel Ridings (9 kills).
For the match, Redeemer recorded 54 kills with 24 errors on 146 attempts for a .205 hitting percentage. Fanshawe hit .211 adding 42 kills with 18 errors on 114 attempts.
The Royals return to action Thursday, February 2nd at 8pm when they host the Sheridan Bruins at the Redeemer Athletic Centre.
