ANCASTER, ON – The Redeemer University's men's volleyball team were upset by the Boreal Vipers 3-2 in the 2023-24 season opener at the Redeemer Athletic Centre Friday night. Scores were 25-11, 16-25, 25-11, 26-28, 16-18.
Leading the Royals was first year
Jonah Heidburt who recorded 13 kills and tied the school record for aces in a match with 10.
Caleb Joosse added 10 kills and six blocks while
Ben Siebenga (5 kills, 8 digs) and
Simon Bourne (5 kills, 7 digs) rounded out the leaders. Gannon hart finished with 31 assists and five aces. Libero
Andrew Walcott added 12 digs in the loss.
Boreal was led by Ashton Giroux who led all players with a match high 18 kills and six digs. Kalan Payzant added 8 kills. 4 aces and 4 blocks. Setter Simon Lemieux added 29 assists while libero Liam Patterson added 17 digs in the win.
The Royals return to action Saturday at 3pm when they host Cambrian College.
