TORONTO, ON - The Redeemer University men's volleyball team defeated the Centennial Colts in straight sets (30-28, 25-22, 25-23) Saturday night on the road to advance to the 2023 OCAA Men's Volleyball Championships being hosted by Fanshawe College February 23-25 in London, Ontario.
Leading the Royals offense was third year
Brett Jenkins (Peterborough, ON) who recorded 13 kills and three aces with a .478 hitting percentage.Â
Second year
Patrick Belisle (Hamilton, ON) collected eight kills, four digs and two blocks while
Caleb Joosse (Peterborough, ON) chipped in with seven kills, a .583 hitting percentage and two blocks. Rounding out the Redeemer leaders was first year
Derick Breukelman (Burlington, ON) who contributed with five kills, two blocks and a .500 hitting percentage and
William Winkelhorst (Newcastle, ON) who added four kills and seven digs.
Second year setter
Andrew Van Dyke (Guelph, ON) handed out 35 assists while libero
Carsen Grim (Langley, BC) added 13 digs in the victory.
Centennial was led by Lionnis Salazar who recorded 10 kills and seven digs in the loss.
For the match, Redeemer recorded 40 kills with seven errors on 86 attempts for a .383 hitting efficiency. Centennial hit .229 adding 34 kills with 10 errors on 105 attempts.
The Royals will take on the No. 2 nationally ranked Fanshawe Falcons in the OCAA Quarter-Finals February 23rd. Time to be determined. During the regular season both matches versus Fanshawe went to five sets with the Falcons winning both 3-2.Â
