Vreugdenhil and Stayshyn named to OCAA West All-Rookie Team

Talia Vreugdenhil (Frankford, ON) and
Julia Stayshyn (Dundas, ON) were named to the OCAA West All-Rookie Team Thursday night at the 2022-23 OCAA Awards banquet hosted by Niagara College.
The first year duo of were one of the top forward combinations in the OCAA during the 2022-23 season.
Vreugdenhil, a two-sport athlete, averaged 11.4 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. She finished 6th overall in OCAA rebounds per game (9.9 RPG), 5th in free throws made (55) and 7th in total rebounds (148). She recorded a career-high 30 points and 20 rebounds versus Sheridan (Jan 11/23).
Talia has had a great rookie season and made an immediate impact to the program," said Royals head coach
Jesse VanHouwelingen. "She works extremely hard every day and will be a force in the OCAA for years to come."
In her first season, Stayshyn averaged 10.3 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. She finished 2nd overall in OCAA rebounds per game (11.5 RPG) and 4th in total rebounds (173). She recorded seven double-doubles and registered a career high 20 points and 20 rebounds versus Conestoga (Feb 1/23).
"Julia has had a huge impact on our program in her first year," said VanHouwelingen. "She has been a strong and consistent rebounder all year. The sky is the limit for her, I don't think she even realizes how good she is."Â
