ANCASTER, ON. Redeemer men's soccer hosted cross-town rivals the Mohawk Mountaineers Saturday afternoon. Before Saturday's match, we had the opportunity to celebrate five graduating senior athletes. This year's men's soccer class includes captain
Hunter Packalen, Ben Lewis,
Giorgie Chrysander,
Rayan Barbosa and
Mycah Winsor.
Senior night is more fun when you win, and these Royals took care of that. The Royals got off to a quick start pushing the ball into the opposing half. Halfway through the opening half, Royals forward
Leandro Alves cracked a ball off the bar and ricocheted off the post. The Mountaineers failed to clear the rebound which found
Hunter Packalen just outside the box who rifled one into the upper corner. Packalen led the Royals into the half with a one-nil lead on his senior night.
The Royals were not done there. Redeemer forward
Leandro Alves added another goal for the Royals in the 49th minute. The subsequent ten minutes saw three more Royals goals from
Kaiden Smith,
Carter Vanderkruk and
Hunter Packalen (2). The Royals lead now 5-nil in the 59th minute.
Redeemer Royals captain
Hunter Packalen made his senior night one to remember. Already with two, Packalen stepped up to the dot on a penalty kick and delivered the hat-trick.
Redeemer conquered the Mountaineers 6-0. The Royals finish 5th in the OCAA West and will travel to Fanshawe for the opening round of the OCAA Playoffs. Wednesday's match will be in London, ON at 4:00 PM.
