Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Walraven Pushes Royals to OCAA Quarter Final in 1-0 Win Over Falcons

ANCASTER, ON.  Redeemer Women's Soccer hosted the eighth-seeded Fanshawe Falcons. Redeemer, the number one-seeded West team is looking to build a deep playoff run and capture an OCAA title. Redeemer defeated the Falcons 3-0 in their regular season match-up at David Mantel Field.

Wednesday evening's match-up was everything you expect from playoff soccer. The cold October night saw the Royals and Falcons battle to the end.

Redeemer Women's Soccer continued to impress with their majority possession and shots on nets. This gameplay is what earned them the top seed and their offensive reputation.

Late in the first half Grace Devries was sprung forward and beat the keeper, but the goal was called back with the offside flag in the air. Through the first half, the Royals and Falcons were locked at zero. Redeemer outshot the Falcons 15-3 in the first forty-five minutes.

Second-half action got underway and the Royals crowd patiently awaited the Royals to open the score. Redeemer picked up where they left off in the first half and continued to pile shots on the net. Royals star midfielder Emily Walraven answered the call and struck a beauty in the fifty-fifth minute. Walraven received the ball from Joelle Mitton and worked her way to the edge of the box. Delivering it from the far left side of the box, Walraven pasted the ball in the upper left corner with her off-foot.

Following Walraven's masterpiece, the Royals continued their high-intensity pressure. In the following minutes, Redeemer had several quality chances but was turned away by the Fanshawe keeper.

Redeemer maintained control to the end of the match, turning aside all the Fanshawe opportunities.

The Royals defeated Fanshawe 1-nil to advance to the OCAA Championship Quarter Finals. Redeemer will host their Quarter Final Match-up against the Cambrian Golden Shield. Kick-off is set for 2:00 PM at David Mantel Field.

Royals fans we need you out to support the Royals as they continue to push for an OCAA Championship.
