Fazelipour Drops 27 In Packed Home Opener Win

ANCASTER, ON.  Redeemer Royals Men's Basketball hosted the Lambton Lions Friday night. Friday was the opening night for OCAA Basketball with the Royals slotted as game number one.

The Redeemer Royals crowd was out in full force for the opener. All night long the crowd was up and roaring for their Royals.

Redeemer set the tone right from the tip-off as they won the jump ball and hit Parker Davis on the fly four seconds into the match for the first basket. Trading buckets through the first quarter had the Royals only leading by four heading into the second quarter.

Neither side gave an inch through the first two quarters. However, the Royals veterans were out to play. Armeen Fazelipour through two quarters had 17 points, 15 of which came from behind the arc. Fellow senior Adam Pavlik joined the party as he hit a half-court buzzer-beater to send the Royals into halftime. The Royals crowd was electric following Pavlik's bucket.

Second-half action got underway and the Royals crowd continued to turn up the noise. Feeding off the crowd, the Royals continued to hit bucket, after bucket, extending their lead to double digits. Capping off the third quarter was another Royals buzzer-beater. This time senior guard Alex Naovarath drove the lane with time running out, Naovarath hit a floater in the key as the buzzer rang.

Entering the fourth quarter with a commanding lead and an ear-piercing crowd behind them, the Royals made their final push. Redeemer outscored Lambton 31-14 in the fourth quarter to seal a 29-point victory.

Key performances from the Royals include Armeen Fazelipour with 27 points and 8 rebounds. Thomaz Barbosa made major contributions off the bench posting 10 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists.

Nearly the entire Redeemer roster put points on the board and capped off an outstanding team win to open the season.
