Redeemer Drops Cross-Town Rivalry 69-45

ANCASTER, ON. The Redeemer Royals travelled to cross-town rival, the Mohawk Mountaineers for a mid-week match-up. Mohawk (1-0) is coming off of a solid season where they posted a 12-4 record. The all-time rivalry between the Royals and Mountaineers leans in the Mohawk's favour. Redeemer entered Tuesday night striving to close the gap and gain a crucial two points in the league standings.

Opening quarter action got under way and both sides traded points. Through the first quarter, Mohawk held a small lead, however, Redeemer had ample opportunities from the free throw to turn the table but could not capitalize.  The score after the opening quarter had Mohawk leading 18-11.

The Mohawk Mountaineers continued to pick up the momentum and capitalize on their chances. Redeemer leaned on second-year guard Daniella Zondag who posted 12 points. Zondag not only led the Royals in points but was the most efficient as well.

At the half Mohawk led 39-21.

Royals first-year center Ava Froese had an impressive game. The Niagara-on-the-lake native recorded 9 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. In her second game, Frose has established herself as a high-volume rebounder in the OCAA.

The Mohawk Mountaineers did not look back once they took control of the game. Mohawk captured the victory over the Royals by a score of 69-45.

Redeemer is back in action on October 30th, when they travel to Conestoga to take on the Condors (0-1).
