ANCASTER, ON.  Redeemer women's soccer continues to pave new steps. The Royals (6-1) travelled to Oakville, ON Saturday afternoon to battle the Sheridan Bruins (4-4). Redeemer has three matches to play in the regular season, including Saturday's match. The Royals currently sit in first place in the OCAA West and can clinch the Division title with three wins to close out the season. A Redeemer outdoor soccer team has never won a division title in the OCAA.

The Redeemer Royals have a knack for scoring early. Royals fifth-year forward Alyssa Simpson opened the scoring in the eighth minute of the match with an assist from Leah Sloots. The Royals have displayed an impeccable ability to get on the board first and get on the board early.  Redeemer has scored first in every one of their matches and has only trailed for twenty-five minutes all season.

This afternoon's match did not change that. Following Simpson's opener, Grace Devries beat the keeper off a re-direction on a cross from Mia Palango to extend the lead to two. Entering half, the Royals were comfortably in front 2-0.

Mia Palango added a third goal for the Royals at the penalty spot early in the second half.

Sheridan was persistent in finishing the match and buried a goal of their own to cut the lead to two. The Bruins final efforts were not enough to surpass the league-leading Royals.

Redeemer improves to 7-1 on the year and inches closer to clinching the division title. Following Saturday's win, the Royals officially clinched a first-round home playoff match.

The Royals final too matches are far from easy. Their two opponents, the Humber Hawks, and cross-town rival Mohawk Mountaineers, are two high-calibre opponents and potentially their toughest match-ups.

The OCAA West title may be decided Saturday afternoon at the Redeemer soccer senior night. The Saint Clair Saints sit three points behind the Royals and also have two matches to play. Saturday afternoon the Royals will host the Mohawk Mountaineers while St. Clair plays the Conestoga Condors.

Fans will not want to miss any women's soccer action this year.  Be sure to come out Saturday, October 12th at David Mantel Field as our Royals chase history. Kickoff is at 12:00 and 2:00 for Women and Men respectively.
