Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

History Awaits Royals Saturday: Hawks Draw Royals 0-0

ANCASTER, ON.  Redeemer Royals women's soccer (7-1) travelled to Etobicoke, ON to face the Humber Hawks (3-5) in a key late-season match-up.  Humber, a perennial powerhouse got off to a slow start of the season, however, they are currently one of the strongest teams in the OCAA. Tuesday night's matchup held a plethora of playoff implications. With a win, the Redeemer Royals would clinch the West division title for the first time in program history. Valuable points are at stake for both sides who look to improve and solidify their playoff position.

Tuesday's match did not disappoint. The Humber Hawks and Redeemer Royals are two of the strongest teams in the league with little to separate the two sides. Through forty-five minutes of play, the score remained dead-locked at zero. Each team posted two shots in the opening half but could not find twine.

Redeemer amped up the pressure in the second half posting four more shots.  The Royals had several game-winning opportunities in the final minutes.  Joelle Mitton rattled a chance off the post in the 88th minute. The Royals followed up Mitton's efforts with two free kicks that created high-quality opportunities in the box. Despite these efforts, the Hawks fended off the Royals opportunities and held to score at nil-nil.

Three-wistles sounded and Redeemer settled for a draw. Royals women's soccer now waits until Saturday for their chance to make history. Redeemer hosts the Mohawk Mountaineers for Senior Night this Saturday afternoon at David Mantel Field. A Redeemer win on Saturday will clinch the Divison title for the Royals.

The Playoff Picture:

Redeemer women's soccer sits in first place in the OCAA West. The second-place St. Clair Saints will be playing a match one hour after the Royals on Saturday that will help decide the division winner. The Saints must win their two remaining matches to potentially steal the top seed from the Royals. If the Royals conquer the Mountaineers they will secure the top seed. If Mohawk defeats Redeemer, the top spot will potentially be up for grabs.

Royals fans will not want to miss out on Saturday's action. Redeemer Women's Soccer has the chance to make history on home field during their Senior Night celebrations. Be sure to catch the action, kickoff at noon.
