Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Niagara Takes Down Royals in Straight Sets

ANCASTER, ON. Redeemer women's volleyball hosted the Niagara Knights Wednesday evening. The mid-week matchup held critical points for either team to capture and climb the standings. Entering the match the Knights sat in fourth place in the OCAA west, with the Royals one spot behind them. This is the second and final time the two sides will face each other in the regular season. Last time out, the Knights took a convincing 3-0 victory over the Royals in the season opener.

Redeemer, determined to change the storyline from the first meeting, came roaring out the gates to open the match. The Royals pushed the Knights all set long. Closing down late in the set the Royals had a 24-22 lead. Niagara rattled off back-to-back aces to draw the set a 24-all. Riding their late momentum, Niagara spurred forward and took the opening set 28-26.

The Royals struggled with their offensive efficiency in the opening set. Niagara's dominant net play proved difficult for the Royals all night long.

Second set action got underway and the Knight took control yet again. The Royals fought closely right to the final point of the set. Set two went to Niagara 25-20.

Joelle Lammers looked to help boost the Royals to a third-set victory. Lammers led the Royals with a .400 hitting percentage on the match. Redeemer fell behind to a large deficit 23-9, however, Julia Koksanowicz stepped up to the service line and led a tremendous Redeemer come-back. The fourth-year setter delivered multiple aces and continually pushed the Knights out-of-system allowing Redeemer to capitalize and narrow the gap. Following two timeouts from the Knights, Redeemer's comeback was shut down five points too soon. Niagara took the third set 25-20.

Redeemer falls to 3-4 but still holds fifth place in the division. The Royals next match is November 22nd when they host the Sheridan Bruins (1-6).
