ANCASTER, ON. Royals basketball travelled to London, ON to face the Fanshawe Falcons Saturday afternoon. Redeemer University hosted a Royals on the Road event at Fanshawe College. Royals on the Road is a joint effort from various departments in the University aimed to connect with alumni, prospective students and the greater Redeemer Community over Royals away matches.
Royal's Men's Basketball opened up the match with momentum. The Royals dominated the glass recording 15 rebounds to the Falcons 5 in the first quarter. The Royals rebounding efforts gave them a six-point lead after one.
Carrying their momentum from the first quarter, the Royals extended their lead to a game-high 12 points late in the second quarter. The Royals excelled on their second chance opportunities which was a difference maker.
At the half the Royals led 49-41.
Second half action got under way in London at the Royals picked up where they left off.
Brendan Morris scored 9 of his 15 points in the third quarter. Morris' efforts held the Royals eight-point lead into the fourth quarter.
Fanshawe was determined to win this match. The Falcons rallied in the fourth quarter and pushed the Royals to the buzzer. Redeemer held onto their lead and came out victorious 87-84. The Royals massive road win improves their record to 2-2.
Leading the Royals were
Robert Mannella,
Parker Davis and
Alex Naovarath. Mannella posted a game-high 24 points adding on 4 rebounds and 6 steals. Davis and Naovarath each recorded 19 points. Naovarath also recorded a game-high 9 assists.
The Royals look to add another win to the column when they host the St. Clair Saints on Friday night.
