ANCASTER, ON. The Saint Clair Saints were in town Friday night to play the Redeemer Royals Men's Basketball team. Saint Clair has been off to a flawless start posting a 3-0 record. The 2-2 Royals looked to remain undefeated at home against a top opponent.
Redeemer had the start that they were looking for, jumping to an early lead led by
Parker Davis. The Royals had a six-point gap on St. Clair after the opening quarter. Davis had 10 of the Royals 30 points in the first.
Through the first half the Royals were shooting a light's out percentage from the field which was a major contributor to their early success.
Alex Noavarath stepped up for the Royals in the second quarter adding 7 points of his own. The Royals were spreading the ball well, however, they were getting outplayed on the glass. St. Clair had double the rebounds Redeemer had in the second quarter. Despite the rebounding difference, Redeemer held onto their lead to enter the half 55-50.
Following the halftime intermission the St. Clair Saints made the adjustments they needed and snatched control of the game. Saint Clair took a three-point lead into the final quarter of play.
Redeemer and St. Clair matched each other in most of the statistical categories, although there was one outlier, Redeemer turnovers. The Royals struggled to control the ball and St. Clair forced 27 turnovers on the match.
Fourth quarter action was well underway and the St. Clair Saints continued to add to their slowly growing lead. Late in the fourth quarter, the Royals sparked a comeback, but it was too late. The Saints held on to win 109-97.
Leading the Royals with a phenomenal night was
Parker Davis. The third-year guard posted a season-high 29 points. Redeemer is back in action this Wednesday when they travel to Etobicoke, ON to face the Humber Hawks.
