Men's Basketball Ends Semester One with 35-Point Win

ANCASTER, ON. Redeemer men's basketball hosted their final game of the first semester. The Canadore Panthers made the trip from North Bay to face the Royals for their second match-up of the year. Last time out the Royals fell to Canadore in overtime 103-98.

The Panthers (1-8) looked to pick up another victory over the 2-7 Royals.

First quarter action got underway at the Redeemer Athletic Centre and the Royals jumped to an early lead. Led by the backcourt duo Alex Naovarath and Parker Davis, Redeemer carried a 14-point lead after the first quarter. Davis and Naovarath recorded 8 and 7 points respectively.

Canadore settled into the second quarter of play and managed to cut the lead to 11 by the end of the frame. Canadore's success came from their ability to rebound the ball. The Panthers tallied 15 rebounds in the second quarter compared to the Royals 7.

At halftime, the Royals had the privilege of formally inducting former Badminton athlete Owen Kurvits into the Redeemer Athletics Hall of Fame. Owen, a three-time All-Canadian and national champion, is one of the most successful Royals athletes of all time. The inductee shared a few words on his time as a Royal and expressed the importance of placing your identity in Jesus Christ.

Third-quarter action had the Royals storm out of the gate and extend their lead. The Royals continued to spread the ball effectively and find the extra pass. Redeemer had nine different Royals check into the game in the third quarter.  The Royals recorded 10 assists in the third quarter.

Redeemer was not satisfied with their lead. The Royals continued to push the pace in the fourth quarter and grew their lead. By the final buzzer, Redeemer's lead had grown to 35.

The Royals improve to 3-7 at the end of semester one. Redeemer is back in action on January 9th, 2025.
