ANCASTER, ON. The second match in Sudbury, ON. had the Royals take on the Cambrian Shield on Saturday afternoon. The OCAA west matchup was significant for the standings entering the second semester. Redeemer rides into the match on a three-game win streak and could jump above .500 with another win. Cambrian has had a successful first semester, the Shield sat one game above .500 and looked to gain separation from the Royals in the standings.
Set one copied the women's match and went in favour of the Royals. Redeemer snuck away with a narrow first-set victory 25-23.
The Royals froze in set two and three as the Shield continued to attack. Cambrian stole back sets two and three 25-10 and 25-16.
Plagued by attack errors and the absence of service aces, the Royals could not climb back into the match. Redeemer trailed the Shield through the fourth set and lost 25-19.
Jonah Heidbuurt had a strong performance back in the lineup. The second-year outside led the Royals in points (11) executing at a high rate.
Andrew Walcott recorded a game-high 17 digs.
Redeemer's win streak comes to an end. The Royals enter the winter break with a 5-6 record which finds them in sixth place. The OCAA west is tightly contested as usual, with a strong second semester the Royals could jump into the top three.
The Royals return to the court on January 8th to host the undefeated Humber Hawks.
