Royals Drop First Match of Second Semester at the Hands of Undefeated Hawks

ANCASTER, ON.  The undefeated Humber Hawks (11-0) entered the den Wednesday night. Humber, the four-straight defending OCAA Champions continued their excellence through the first semester dropping only four sets. The last time the two sides faced off, the Royals were the first team in the OCAA to snatch a set win off the Hawks. Humber secured the November match 3-1. Despite Humber's dominance through the past several seasons, the Hawks have failed to win at Redeemer. The last two matches at the Redeemer Athletic Centre saw the Royals win in five-set thrillers.

Both sides came out firing in the opening minutes of action. Half way through the opening set the Hawks were able to pulled ahead thanks to the service pressure of Michael McAlpine. The separation gained by Humber's service run was held through the opening set and Hawks won 25-18.

Redeemer fell behind early in set two but climbed back into the set. Late in the second set Redeemer lost a critical point after an extensive conversation between the two referees. This result had Humber lead 23-21. Trading points back and fourth, Humber edged out the Royals 27-25 in set two to take a 2-0 lead.

Jonah Heidbuurt had an exceptional performance all night long. The second year outside recorded seven kills on thirteen attempts with only one error. Despite the valiant effort from the Royals, Humber closed out the match and won in straight sets. The Hawks improve to 12-0 on the season.

Royals rookie setter Ben Brouwer filled in for the Royals and had an impressive showing. The young Royal delivered seventeen assists and a service ace in his OCAA starting debut.

Redeemer falls to 5-7 in the OCAA West and now looks to climb the ranks in the final stretch of the regular season. The Royals next match is on January 15th when they travel to face the Conestoga Condors.
