The Redeemer Royals are excited to announce that they have been accepted as members of the Upstate New York College Hockey League. The UNYCHL is a conference within the American Athletic Union which offers three divisions. The Royals will compete in Division 2.

Membership in the UNYCHL means that Royals hockey will play a 10 game conference regular season. Fans will be able to enjoy watching the Royals play official full length and full contact games right here in Hamilton.

The teams General Manager David Scholman had this to say about the announcement:

"This is a huge step for our program. It gives our players a stage to showcase the skills God has given them to the Redeemer community and beyond. Membership in the UNYCHL will enable us as a program to attract student-athletes to Redeemer who would not have attended otherwise.

It will also positively contribute to the school's international presence and awareness. AAU membership is great opportunity for Redeemer to show the hockey world how a Christian hockey team playing with a Vertical Purpose is unique, distinct, and can make a huge impact!"

Director of Athletics James Kryger stated "Joining the UNYCHL is exciting for us at Redeemer University. For years, we've invested in our hockey program, making sure we built the program the right way, both on and off the ice. A big part was ensuring we could operate a program that intentionally integrated faith development into the on ice product. Our Vertical Purpose initiative will take center stage, and we are confident in our ability to run a high-level hockey program that not only hones athletic skills but also reflects the love of Jesus Christ in all its actions, on and off the ice." commented Kryger.

Kryger continued to comment on how joining a league schedule will add to the Redeemer experience: "Introducing home hockey games to our campus event schedule will only further electrify our student experience and provide another exciting event on Friday and Saturday nights for our campus community to enjoy.

The AAU is comprised of schools from coast to coast across the United States. Redeemer University will be the first Canadian Christian School in both the UNYCHL and the AAU.

The Royals Hockey Program will continue to have opportunities to grow in the years to come through expanding their schedule to qualify for the National AAU Championship and also to move up to Division 1.
