ANCASTER, ON St. Clair men's soccer (0-1-1) was in town to face the Redeemer Royals (1-1-0) Saturday afternoon. The Royals were looking to bounce back after their mid-week loss to the Conestoga Condors.
Redeemer secured three points and the victory at the Saints home opener last weekend and were not going to let St. Clair do the same.
Saturday's match had a quiet first half of action. Both the Royals and Saints had quality chances to go ahead, although neither side capitalized on their opportunities.
Redeemer stormed into the second half rallying off of the energy brought by the RU Royal Family that filled the sidelines. Captain,
Hunter Packalen helped lead the way when he crossed the ball in from the right sideline to Royals forward
Rayan Barbosa who headed it into the back of the net. A beautiful opening goal that had the fans wanting more. And that is exactly what Barbosa gave them. Barbosa silenced the Saints with an eighty-fifth-minute goal from inside the box.
Royals forward
Rayan Barbosa has now scored four goals this season, all of them being against the Saints. Barbosa finds himself sitting third in the OCAA for goals scored and first in the OCAA West.
Redeemer captures a crucial three points from the Saints for the second time in a week. The Royals improved to 2-1-0 on the year and will look to add another victory next weekend. Redeemer travels to Lambton College on Saturday, September 21st. Kick-off is set for 6:00 PM in Sarnia.
