ANCASTER, ON. Redeemer Men's Soccer hosted the Niagara Knights Wednesday evening. The Royals have been off to a superb start and look to build off of their early momentum.
Wednesday's match saw the Royals welcome back a familiar face. However, this time in a different kit. Former Royals veteran striker
Gerrit Oldejans suited up for the Niagara Knights and sought to spoil the Royals' winning streak.
The Knights and Royals each had ample opportunities through the first 45 minutes. Although neither side could get past the keeper's.
Halfway through the second half, Redeemer was awarded a free kick deep in the Knights half. Third-year defender
Derek Proulx delivered a ball into the box where first-year
Carter Vanderkruk beat the keeper. The Royals snatched the lead off of a beautiful set piece.
The Royals were not contempt with a one goal lead. As the action resumed the Knights began to create goal-scoring opportunities but could not crack Royals keeper
Matthew Derks.
Redeemer forward
Eli Mudde put the match out of reach with a screamer in the 83rd minute. Mudde pasted the ball in the far left corner of the net to extend the Royals' lead to two. The Redeemer crowd erupted in cheers following Mudde's goal.
The Royals finished off the match and secured three vital points. Redeemer's 4-1 record has them sitting at the top of the table.
Royals fans you will not want to miss Saturday's action. The Royals host the second-place team the Fanshawe Falcons for a battle at the top spot. We want you to be there and be loud to support our Royals.
The men's match is set to kick-off at 1:00 PM. Games like these do not come around often, and there's no better time to have it than during Alumni and Family Week.
