Royals Dominate Top Tier Opponent Niagara Knights

ANCASTER, ON. The Niagara Knights were at David Mantel Field Wednesday evening for a top-of-the-table clash. The Royals and Knights are two of the top teams in the OCAA West. Niagara, entering Wednesday sat top of the table with a 4-1-1 record. In comparison, the Royals were close behind in third with a 3-1 record.

The Royals kicked off the match with a bang as second-year forward Charis Johnson was led on a breakaway where she found the back of the net. Johnson's goal sparked the Royals crowd and carried early momentum throughout the first half of action.

The Knights were not going to fall that easily. Niagara fought back into the action and the score remained unchanged through the 40th minute.

Royals fifth-year midfielder Ivana Kansiek netted a second goal for the Royals in the opening half of play. Halftime saw the Royals leading 2-0.

The offensive pressure did not stop there. Royals striker Joelle Mitton added to their lead with a brilliant strike, curling the ball into the top right corner past the keeper's outstretched hands. Ivana Kanisek helped to set up Mitton's masterpiece.

Ivana continued to shine late in the match where she added her fourth point. Kanisek buried her second goal of the match to extend the Royals lead in the 90th minute.

Redeemer conceded a late 90th-minute goal to set the score at 4-1.

The Royals dominated the pitch and made a statement to the league by taking down West division leaders the Niagara Knights.

Redeemer has put themselves in an excellent position entering the second half of the regular season. The Royals will look to close out the year and secure the top spot in the OCAA West.

The Royals are back in action this Saturday during Alumni and Family Week here at Redeemer. Saturday's kick-off for the ladies is set for 4:30 PM following the alumni games. Make sure to come on out and support your Royals.
