Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Drain, Vreugdenhil Each Tally Fourteen in Home Win

ANCASTER, ON. Redeemer Women's Basketball (2-7) hosted the Conestoga Condors (1-9) Wednesday night in OCAA West action. The Royals entered Wednesday's match two spots ahead of the Condors with seven matches remaining in the regular season. Redeemer could gain significant separation from the Condors with a head-to-head win this late in the season.

First-quarter action had the two sides all tied up after the opening ten minutes. Royals athlete of the week Ava Froese found herself making an early impact posting 4 points and 3 rebounds in the first quarter.

Building off of Froese's first-quarter efforts, the Royals stormed into the second quarter and dominated all across the floor. Redeemer outscored Conestoga 24-6 in the second quarter. The Royals defence held the Condors to 13% from the field in quarter number two.

At the half, Redeemer led Conestoga 38-20.

Conestoga settled into the third quarter following a shaky opening half. The Condors clawed back in the third quarter but the damage had already been done. The Royals had established their significant lead and simply matched the Condors offensive output.

Ten minutes of play remained and the Royals maintained their double-digit lead. Despite a late push from the Condors, Redeemer held on to their lead and won 65-53.

Redeemer had four Royals cracked double-digit scoring. Talia Vreugdenhil (14) Sydney Drain (14) Sydney Lazenby (11) and Hannah Bloemberg (10). Mia Palango and Ava Froese controlled the backboard for Redeemer as they recorded nine and eight rebounds respectively.

The Royals improve to 3-10 and look to pick up another victory this weekend. The Royals travel to face the defending OCAA Champions Lambton Lions on Saturday, January 15th, 2025.
