LONDON, ON. — The Redeemer University Royals women's soccer team punched their ticket to a home playoff match in thrilling fashion on Friday night, defeating the Fanshawe Falcons 2–1 on the road in a dramatic finish.
Heading into the match, Redeemer knew that a win or draw would secure their playoff position and guarantee a home playoff game, and they delivered when it mattered most.
After a scoreless first half, rookie
Ava Manshanden opened the scoring in the 76th minute, netting her first goal as a Royal, with
Joelle Mitton providing the assist. The Falcons, however, responded late, equalizing in the 85th minute to level the match at 1–1.
Just when it seemed the game might end in a draw,
Joelle Mitton struck again, this time as the hero, scoring the game-winning goal in the 90th minute, assisted by
Kendra Sieders.
With the victory, Redeemer secures fourth place in the OCAA West Division, earning the right to host a first-round playoff match.
The Royals will kick off their postseason campaign on Wednesday, October 15th at 8:30 p.m. at Hamilton Stadium.
