HAMILTON, ON - Redeemer men's volleyball opened the season at Mohawk College Saturday afternoon. The local rivalry, historically controlled by the Royals, has recently been in favour of the Mountaineers. Royals vs Mountaineers volleyball means one thing, five-sets. Five of the last six match ups have gone the distance. Saturday's match continued this tradition.
Redemer opened the match strong, controlling the flow of the set. The Royals hit .364% in the first set, however, this would be their best offensive set. The Royals won the first set 25-22.
The Mountainers bounced back in set two in convincing fashion 25-11. Mohawk followed up their set two win, by taking the third set 25-21.
Trailing 2-1, the Royals needed the rally in the fourth set to force a fifth. That is exaclty what they did. The Royals were flawless at the net recording zero attacking errors in the fourth set. Redeemer took the fourth set 25-21.
As Royals vs Mountaineers matches go, Saturday's game required five sets. It was the Mountaineers who found the extra fight in the fifth set. Mohawk controlled the fifth set and took the match 3-2.
Redeemer is back in action Wednesday night for their home opener against the Sheridan Bruins.
