LONDON, ON. It was a tough night for the Redeemer Royals women's volleyball team as they fell to the Fanshawe Falcons in straight sets (25-12, 25-21, 25-16) on the road at Fanshawe College.
From the start, the Falcons set the tone, dominating the first set with a 25-12 win. Fanshawe's offense was clicking, while Redeemer just couldn't find their rhythm. The Royals struggled offensively throughout the match, hitting a tough .067 overall, which made it hard for them to put together any significant attacks.
Redeemer showed some resilience in the second set, managing to fight through some tough rallies, but Fanshawe was simply too solid. The Falcons took the second set 25-21, controlling the tempo and making key plays when it mattered most.
The third set followed a similar pattern. While the Royals pushed hard, they couldn't seem to get anything going offensively, and Fanshawe finished things off with a 25-16 win to complete the sweep.
Despite the loss, there were some bright spots for Redeemer. Kate Dejong was a standout player for the Royals, contributing 6 points and a team-high 11 digs. She did her best to keep the team in the match, but with the team struggling to attack efficiently, it was a tough battle from start to finish.
Redeemer now awaits confirmation of their first-round playoff opponent. OCAA Cross-over action begins next weekend. Potential opponents for the Royals include Durham (#2), La Cite (#3) Algonquin (#4) or Centennial (#5). Redeemer is confident in their playoff ability having beaten the OCAA East, undefeated number one seed, Seneca Sting in preseason action 3-1.
Final Score:
Fanshawe Falcons 3 – Redeemer Royals 0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-16)
