LONDON, ON. The Redeemer Royals men's volleyball team showed flashes of brilliance but ultimately fell short against the Fanshawe Falcons in a 3-1 defeat. After taking an exciting first set, the Royals struggled to maintain their momentum, as Fanshawe won the next three sets to claim the match 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-14).
The Royals came out hot in the opening set, playing with energy and focus that saw them take a 25-22 win. The team was sharp on offense, with key kills and solid defense that kept the Falcons off balance. They looked in control early, playing disciplined volleyball and capitlizing from the service line.
However, Fanshawe quickly regrouped. The Falcons came out firing in the second set, jumping out to an early lead and eventually holding on for a 25-22 win. Redeemer battled back late in the set, sparked by
Derick Breukelman detonating an attack from the outside, but couldn't find the key points when needed. With the momentum shifting, Fanshawe pushed ahead, dominating the next two sets.
The third set was a tough one for the Royals, as Fanshawe's attack proved too much to handle. The Falcons controlled the tempo from the start, and despite Redeemer's best efforts, the Falcons cruised to a 25-18 win.
In the fourth and final set, Fanshawe was relentless. The Royals struggled to keep pace as the Falcons put the match away with a 25-14 victory, sealing the 3-1 win.
The Royals playoff quest is officially over at the hands of the Falcons. Redeemer will look to transition into next year with a new look. Building off of their playoff success and continued development, the Royals are poised to return to being amongst the league's best.Â
