ROCKHILL, SC - Day two of the College Disc Golf National Championships was a historic day for Redeemer Disc Golf. First-year athlete
Kalan Schat qualified for the Final Nine sitting in second place (-6). Schat was on the lead card, accompanied by touring professionals Jesse Longenecker of Eastern Mennonite University, and Jaden Rye of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Rounding off the card was Cade Kohlmeier of Emporia State.
The Final Nine of the Singles event was covered by Gate Keeper Media and can be watched on their

Kalan opened the Final Nine with a statement. Following an excellent drive and approach, Kalan hit a momentum starting put from distance for the birdie. On the same hole the leader, Jesse Longenecker threw out of bounds resulting in a bogie. The opening hole had a two-stroke swing in favour of the Royals
Kalan Schat, who trailed by one stroke and had eight holes to play.
Longenecker and Schat went shot for shot the following three holes.Â
Kalan made his move on hole number five. The world-famous island hole is well-known for both its difficulty and beauty. Schat was the first to tee off and put the disc within fifteen feet of the basket to put the pressure on the rest of the card. Schat converted on the birdie putt to tie for the lead with four holes remaining.Â
Schat's momentum began to fade through the following four holes. Kalan bogied the remaining four holes to fall out of contention and placed third.
Kalan had a phenomenal showing in the singles portion of the competition. The first-year athlete is the first Royal to make the Final Nine, let alone be on the lead card. Through the first several holes, the young Royal had the gallery convinced he would take the competition. Schat concluded the Singles Championship tied for third place and was named a First Team All-American. Kalan is the first Royal to place at the College Disc Golf National Championships, along with being the first All-American.Â
