HAMILTON, ON - Redeemer men's soccer visited cross-town rival, Mohawk Mountaineers, on Friday night. The rivalry has been dominated by the Royals over the last ten matchups, posting a 7-2-1 record. However, both Royals losses were on the road. 

Friday's match opened quickly with fast play and tightly contested challenges. Redeemer possessed a slight edge in the opening twenty minutes but failed to capitalize on their few opportunities. 

The Mountaineers and Royals entered halftime nil-nil. Redeemer narrowly outshot Mohawk 4-3 with shots on goal. 

Second-half action was quickly dominated by the Royals. Redeemer rallied several high-quality scoring opportunities in the early minutes of the half.

Mohawk regained composure and quickly developed two high-danger scoring opportunities. Royals freshman keeper Sam Barnhoorn shut the door, keeping the match scoreless.

The golden opportunity for the Royals was delivered in the seventieth minute as first-year Royal Alex Salo drew a penalty kick for the Royals. Cormac O'Brien stepped up to the penalty dot for Redeemer and slotted the opening goal of the match to the left of the keeper.

Ahead 1-nil, Redeemer continued to push forward. Ethan Smith nearly grew the Royals' lead to two late in the match but was turned away on the doorstep by the Mohawk keeper. 

The ninetieth minute arrived, but the Mohawk heroics had just begun. Ignacio Torres was the hero, burying a game-tying goal in added time to stun the Royals. 

A 1-1 draw between the Royals and Mountaineers. 

Redeemer is back in action Friday, September 19th, at David Mantel Field for the Royals' home opener.
