ANCASTER, ON - Redeemer men's soccer welcomed the Lambton Lions Friday night for the Royals' home opener. Redeemer (0-0-2) has been off to a steady start, coming away with two draws in their opening two matches. The Lambton Lions (0-3) have had a less fortunate start, finding themselves without a point in their first three contests.
From the first whistle, it was all Royals. The fast-paced and possession-focused Royals controlled the match through the opening thirty minutes. Maintaining possession and generating chances, the Reds were bound to find an opener soon.Â
In the thirty-seventh minute, second year Royal
Luca Moras delivered a screamer, beating the Lambton keeper under the bar. The Royals crowd erupted for the first home goal of the season, as the young midfielder and his teammates ran to the crowd to celebrate.
Cormac O'Brien assisted Moras' efforts.Â
Redeemer entered the break with a 1-nil lead, outshooting the Lions 16-1.Â
The second half's action picked up where it left off, as the Royals continued to control the pace of play. Redeemer sought an insurance goal throughout the half, generating several key chances, but was unable to find it.Â
In the seventy-fourth minute, following a Redeemer corner kick, the Lambton Lions found their striker on a breakaway. The lone striker beat the Redeemer keeper and tied the match 1-1.
Lambton was content to steal a draw from the Royals and parked the bus for the remaining fifteen minutes of play. Despite the Royals' desperate efforts late, Lambton steered away from each Redeemer opportunity.Â
The two sides found themselves at the finish with a 1-1 draw.
The Royals are back in action Saturday afternoon as they host the St. Clair Saints at 3:00 PM.
