Saints Hand Royals First Loss of the Season

ANCASTER, ON - The undefeated Royals hosted the St.Clair Saints Saturday afternoon. Both sides were eager to secure a valuable three points nearing the midpoint of the OCAA season.

Redeemer opened the match in typical fashion, bringing fast pace and high-volume possession to the Saints. Neither side was able to gain complete control of the match through the opening thirty minutes.

St. Clair found their opportunity near the midpoint of the first half. Royals first year, Alex Salo was issued his second yellow card of the half, dropping the Royals' side to only 10.

Battling down a man, Redeemer took the Saints into the halftime break tied 0-0.

St. Clair's man advantage was not going to be held back for too much longer. Mateo Ventura potted two goals in the second half to put his side ahead.

Redeemer showed no quit. Royals star midfielder Cormac O'Brien broke the St.Clair line following a turnover and buried a goal to cut the lead to one. Sparked with a newfound hope, the Royals charged forward. Down a man, with the clock nearing the ninetieth minute, Redeemer could not grasp possession.

St. Clair held on to the 2-1 road victory, handing the Royals their first loss of the season.

Redeemer is back in action on Wednesday, when they host the Conestoga Condors.
