ANCASTER, ON — Redeemer University Athletics is proud to announce that Eric Heidbuurt '15, one of the most decorated players in Redeemer men's volleyball history, has been inducted as the 22nd member of the Redeemer Royals Hall of Fame.
"The Redeemer Royals Hall of Fame exists to honour excellence in competition and character," said Director of Athletics James Kryger. "It recognizes those whose impact reaches beyond the sport and into the heart of the Redeemer community. Eric's legacy embodies that mission, and he is the perfect fit as our 22nd inductee."
Heidbuurt made his mark as a dominant presence on the court, becoming a two-time OCAA First-Team All-Star and a two-time OCAA Tournament All-Star. Over his career, he established himself as Redeemer's all-time leader in points (920), blocks (139), and kills (727), while ranking second all-time in aces (47). He also set single-season and single-game standards that still stand today, including 329 points and 267 kills in one season, as well as a record-setting 29 kills and 33 points in a single match.
Heidbuurt's story is more than statistics. During his time at Redeemer, he was a standout student who modelled the Royals' balance of academics, athletics, and faith. Today, he continues to give back to the sport he loves, still playing and mentoring younger volleyball players while investing in the next generation. Off the court, he serves the community as a firefighter and is actively involved in his church at Grace Valley, where his faith and commitment to service remain central to his life.
"Eric paired power and poise as an athlete with humility and Christian service as a person," Kryger added. "He has continued to lead by example, mentoring and serving, and that lasting influence is exactly what we hope every Royal will pursue."
Heidbuurt's induction highlights not only his extraordinary career on the court but also his ongoing influence as a leader, mentor, and servant in his community.
