ANCASTER, ON - The Redeemer Royals men's basketball team opened their gym doors last Friday to the next generation, hosting a free basketball camp for students in Grades 4–8—and the results were nothing short of a success.
The camp reached full capacity, welcoming a strong group of young athletes eager to learn, compete, and grow in their game. From the moment the session began, the energy in the gym was evident, as campers were met with an encouraging and fun environment that made the experience both enjoyable and impactful.
Led entirely by members of the men's basketball program, the camp provided a unique opportunity for participants to learn directly from current student-athletes. The players took on coaching roles throughout the day, guiding campers through skill development drills, game scenarios, and team-based activities designed to build confidence and fundamentals.
The camp was organized by fourth-year player Gabe Della Foresta, who reflected on the impact of the day:
"The camp went great, we had lots of Hamilton youth with lots of energy and an eagerness to learn. We did our best to help these young athletes grow in important basketball skills like shooting, dribbling, passing and most importantly teamwork. We also had a few of our Mens basketball players share their testimony as well as lead a devotion on unity in Christ and as teammates with the goal of demonstrating that the sports we play and our faith as Christians isn't supposed to be in separate sectors of our life, but rather the same one."
As the camp progressed, many young athletes showed noticeable improvement, gaining new skills while also developing a deeper love for the game. More importantly, they experienced a positive and supportive atmosphere that emphasized growth, teamwork, and character.
With strong participation, visible development, and lasting impact, the camp proved to be a memorable day for everyone involved—highlighting the Redeemer University athletics program commitment to community engagement and mentorship through sport.
