ANCASTER, ON - The Redeemer Royals women's volleyball team saw its five-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon, falling in straight sets to the fourth-place Cambrian Shield at the Redeemer Athletic Centre.
With Redeemer entering the matchup in third place and Cambrian riding a four-game win streak of its own, the contest featured two of the hottest teams in the OCAA. Cambrian proved to be the sharper side on the day, controlling play and handling the Royals in three sets.
Redeemer struggled to put the ball away efficiently throughout the match, often tipping or rolling shots out of scoring opportunities. Those missed chances allowed Cambrian to stay in system and apply steady pressure, ultimately dictating the tempo of the match.
Despite flashes of strong defensive play, the Royals were unable to generate enough sustained offence to shift momentum against a confident Shield squad that capitalized when opportunities arose.
Redeemer will look to bounce back quickly as they hit the road for a key midweek matchup, travelling to Niagara on Wednesday in a crucial contest as the OCAA playoff race continues to tighten.
