CAMBRIDGE, ON – The Redeemer Royals women's soccer team traveled to Cambridge to take on Conestoga on Thursday night.
With the potential for a home playoff game on the horizon, the Royals were looking for any points they could get in the standings.
However, Conestoga would strike first, as a corner kick in the 18th minute would take a few caroms and find its way in, taking an early 1-0 lead.
And that's how the teams would end the first half. The Condors outshot the Royals 6-7 and took the lead into the half.
11 minutes into the second half, the Royals would find a response. Tautiana Pellegrino flew down the sideline and put a shot across that was blocked by the defender, but Joelle Mitton was there to put it away and tie the game up at one.
The game would see chances going both ways, including a high-light reel penalty stop from Sarah deJong in the 88th minute to keep the game tied.
That's how the game would end, as neither team could break through for the win.
The tie keeps the Royals in contention for a home playoff game, but they'll need some help. A Redeemer win at Sheridan, and a Fanshawe loss at St. Clair would be enough.
The Royals play the Bruins on Saturday, October 17th at noon in Oakville.
