LEWISTON, NY – The Redeemer Royals hockey team hit the road to take on the Niagara University Purple Eagles on Saturday night.
The Royals were a perfect 3-0-0 coming into this contest, looking to keep the ball rolling.
The game started out tighter than the Royals have been used to; both teams going scoreless through the opening ten minutes as they figured out each other. However, the Royals would break through twice before the end of the opening frame.
The second period would see more scoring. The Royals would open it up just over four minutes into the middle frame, taking a 3-0 lead.
But the Purple Eagles would begin mounting a comeback later in the second, storming back to score two goals just 70 seconds apart in the final five minutes to make it 3-2.
However, the Royals would fend off Niagara, scoring a goal 20 seconds after their second goal to regain a two-goal advantage going into the second intermission.
The third period would be Redeemer at their best. Many coaches will tell you the best way to defend a lead is to spend all the time on offence, and the Royals executed that to perfection!
Redeemer would score four goals in the final frame, three of them coming in a two-minute and five second span. Niagara would tack on one more in the final 15 seconds to cut the deficit to five, but the Royals would cruise to an 8-3 victory.
The Royals outshot the Purple Eagles an astounding 18-2 in the third period. They outshot Niagara by a total of 47-18 over the course of the game.
The Royals are still perfect, extending the win streak to four as they await the release of their full schedule.
