OTTAWA, ON – The Redeemer Royals men's soccer team traveled up to our nation's capital to take on the Algonquin Wolves in the OCAA Playoff Qualifying Crossover Game.
The no. 1 ranked Wolves were certainly a tall task for the Royals. Algonquin was undefeated in the regular season.
The beginning of the game consisted of the teams feeling each other out. The Wolves controlled most of the play, but the Royals didn't let them have much.
That was until the 27th minute, when the Wolves finally broke through a scramble in the box that led to a beautiful shot into the top-right corner.
In the 32nd minute, the Wolves would capitalize on a fast break, this time with the finish coming in the bottom right corner.
2-0 would be the score heading into halftime. The Royals were down, but not out.
The second half saw the teams enter a stalemate. The Royals hung in with the best in the OCAA but could not break through.
In the 80th minute, the Wolves would extend their lead to three. In the 90th, they would ice it with a fourth.
The Royals put up a very inspiring effort against an extremely tough opponent but ultimately came up short in this game.
This will end the Royals OCAA playoff run for the 2026 season.
