ANCASTER, ON – The Redeemer Royals men's basketball team played their home opener on Tuesday night when they hosted the Niagara Knights.
The Royals opened up the season 0-2 and were looking for a win to get the ball rolling!
The first quarter was extremely tight. A very offensive, back-and-forth quarter saw the Royals leading 25-23. Parker Davis led the way with 6 PTs.
The second quarter saw the scoring drop. Both defenses buckled down for a quarter that saw only 18 PTs scored between both teams. Niagara outscored Redeemer 11-7, and led 34-32.
The third saw both offenses pick it up once again. Lucas Macklem put up nine while the Royals took a 7-PT lead. It was 61-54 going into the fourth.
The fourth quarter was textbook lead defending from the Royals. They held Niagara to 16 while adding 20 of their own. A couple of crucial turnovers helped Redeemer earn their first win of the young season.
First-year skipper Howard Nañes earned his first win with Redeemer, as the Royals down the Knights 80-71.
Davis inches closer to Royals history, now only six points short of 1000 in his illustrious Royals career. He would be only the sixth ever Royal to reach this feat.
The Royals will now hit the road up to North Bay to take on the Canadore Panthers on Saturday, October 31st, in hopes of trick-or-treating themselves to win.
