The Royals came out hot, with Kendall Bezemer and Joelle Mitton registering a fleury of shots early but just could not find the back of the net.
In the 23rd minute, Humber's Chantel Spalla buried a beautiful deep ball past goalkeeper Jasmine DeBoer.
The teams entered a defensive stalemate for the rest of the half, and the Hawks would take the lead into the break.
Humber brought out the pressure in the second half, registering six shots in the first 15 minutes of the second half, but DeBoer denied everything that came her way.
In the 71st minute, Bezemer would have a few high-quality chances from outside the box, but she could not find the back of the net.
For the rest of the game, the Royals just could not break through Humber's defensive structure. The Hawks' early goal would be the decider, as this one finishes 1-0.
The defensive gridlock that was this match should not surprise many, as in the last five games between these two teams, each of them are 2-2-1, each game having one or fewer goals scored.
The Royals look to bounce back next Wednesday, September 23rd, where they host the Sheridan Bruins.
