Oh wait, the Royals scored?! Just 1:30 into the game, Kendall Bezemer finds Joelle Mitton on a clear-cut breakaway, and the fourth year forward makes no mistake! Redeemer leads 1-0 early.
While the scored remained that way for the rest of the half, the Royals controlled possession. They had the majority of the scoring opportunities but just could not make good on them.
That all changed early in the second half.
In the 57th minute, the duo of Bezemer and Mitton connect again, as Joelle is able to bury a rebound to double the Royals lead.
The Royals kept the pressure on. In the 71st minute, Ava Manshaden made an incredible individual effort. Cutting through the mouth of the goal, she shook off a few defenders and found the twine, extending the lead to three!
Five minutes later, Redeemer found themselves with a corner kick. The ball crossed the front of the Bruins goal to Brooke Jurjens. Jurjens makes a sweet pass over to Audrey Benjamins, and she'd make no mistake either.
And that was all she wrote. The Royals shut down the Bruins to preserve the shutout for Jasmine DeBoer, who was not the busier of the two netminders; she was perfect when called upon.
Redeemer's next game is this Saturday, September 26 at 5pm, where they'll host the Fanshawe Falcons and look to keep the good times rolling!
