Wesley Schilstra returns to Redeemer University as the Head Coach of the Royals Men’s Volleyball program, bringing with him a strong history of excellence, leadership, and deep-rooted connection to the institution. A proud Royals alumnus, Schilstra previously spent three years on the coaching staff as an assistant under former Head Coach Eli Tolkamp, where he played a key role in guiding the program to new competitive heights.
As a student-athlete, Schilstra was a standout performer for the Royals. He earned two OCAA bronze medals (2018 & 2019) and was named Redeemer’s Male Athlete of the Year in 2019. His understanding of the program’s culture, expectations, and competitive environment was further strengthened when he transitioned to coaching, adding an OCAA silver medal in 2022 and contributing to the only Royals team in school history to qualify for the CCAA National Championship.
Schilstra’s coaching philosophy is centered on player development, discipline, and fostering a team-first culture. His vision for the Royals focuses on elevating the program within the OCAA while shaping well-rounded student-athletes who excel both on and off the court.
With his unique perspective as both a former player and coach at Redeemer, Schilstra is poised to lead the next generation of Royals with passion, purpose, and a commitment to sustained growth.
