Ryan Sloots

Ryan Sloots joined the Royals Men’s Soccer coaching staff in November 2021 following a five-year playing career with the University, where he featured as a winger. Sloots after serving as an assistant coach for a matter of months, took over as Interim Head Coach in March 2022 before being appointed the Head Assistant Coach under Matt Hahn in June 2022. His transition from player to coach reflects his deep commitment to the program and his passion for developing Christ-centred student-athletes both on and off the pitch. Sloots blend of organizational, recruitment, and player management skills has seen the program steadily grow in talent acquisition, player performance, and character development, all leading to increased success on the pitch.

Prior to joining the Royals staff, Sloots served as Head Coach for Ontario soccer camps with Athletes in Action, leading technical, faith, and character development for youth players across the province. His playing background also includes time with West Ottawa Soccer Club.

Sloots holds an Honours Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Redeemer University and is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Sport and Performance Psychology from the University of Western States. Sloots is also a Student Member of the Association for Applied Sport Psychology.

Blending academic insight with practical experience, Sloots brings a player-centered, mentally informed, and purpose-driven philosophy to his role with the Royals, supporting student-athletes in both their athletic and personal development.

Sloots, along with his wife, Alena and pets live in Hamilton, ON.
