The Men's Basketball team continued their record setting season last night with another victory in a huge win against the Fanshawe Falcons. With the win, Redeemer earned its 7th win of the season with 1 game still remaining. The Royals record improved to 7-12. Redeemer's Basketball teams will host the Niagara Knights on Saturday February 16th at 2pm and 4pm in their final league games of the season.
In the game, Calvin Turnbull continued his dominating play for Redeemer with 28 points and 12 rebounds. Ali Askarov added 15 points for the Royals while Paul Hart chipped in with 11 points and 7 assists.
Boyd Vassel had a team-high 21 points for the 12-6 Falcons.
Redeemer entered the 4th quarter with the score tied at 52-52 before an explosive 13-3 run gave the Royals the lead. Redeemer was able to keep that gap throughout the rest of the game and ended up with a 10-point victory, 77-67.
After struggling in their past two games against St. Clair College and Lambton College, the victory against Fanshawe proved that the Royals are on the right track. Despite some inconsistencies, it is clear that Redeemer can compete with anyone in the league on any given night. The win also halted a 4 game slide for the Royals who hadn't won since January 19th.
In the women's game, the Falcons flexed their muscles as they were to much too handle for Redeemer. The Royals lost the game 90-60 to put Redeemer's record at 5-12.
Jesseca Brown had a team-high 16 points for Redeemer while Larissa Smeltzer and Esther Weima added 12 and 10 respectively.
The Royals close out their season on Saturday when they host Niagara College at 2pm and 4pm.
